Dean-Emeritus Kenamond's favorite activities: writing about local history and supporting Shepherd College.
Summer term 2024's display is a celebration of Mr. Alva D. Kenamond, one of Shepherd College's most famous instructors and emeritus faculty, the very first dean of the college. An amateur historian, he was active in ensuring the proper running of the campus as dean, instructor, coach, supporter, and celebrant of Shepherd College as it grew from a small institution for training teachers into a four year college with a strong identity.

Dean Kenamond's care and promotion of Shepherd College and its students was well-known throughout his tenure as a professor, dean and Dean Emeritus; it is reflected in his varied activities. His second passion was the history of Jefferson County.
In 1927, he helped form and was president of the Jefferson County Historical Society, an organization that still exists today. (https://www.jeffersonhistoricalwv.org/about/founding-history).
When AD Kenamond died, he was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, not among his contemporaries, but among the "prominent men" he had researched.
