Our Collection

The Scarborough Library has a broad range of materials by and about Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). Materials on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders' history are not located in one single section of the Library; resources are found across the collection, in history, art, literature, music, and film. This is a small selection of titles available through the Scarborough Library in both print and digital formats.

Recommended Reading Lists

Check out these book lists created for African American History Month. If you find something on the lists you would like to read, but the Library doesn't have, let us know. We'll be happy to attempt to locate it for you.

  • NPR - In celebration of Heritage Month, we've compiled a reading list of works from Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander writers. Through a wide range of fiction, poetry, graphic novels and nonfiction, they explore everything from motherhood and displacement to sexuality.
  • New York Public Library - Explore books for adults, kids, and teens that spotlight a range of experiences within Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
  • Powell's City of Books - May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and this year we’re fortunate to be partnering again with our friends at APANO (Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon) to share a curated reading list. APANO is a statewide, grassroots organization, uniting Asians and Pacific Islanders to achieve social justice and find solutions to the disproportionate gaps in education, health, and economic prosperity that Asian and Pacific Islander communities often face.
  • Social Justice Books - Critically reviewed selection of multicultural and social justice books for children, young adults, and educators.
