How to Search for articles (magazines, newspapers, and journals)

Searching for articles by topic:

1. EBSCOhost databases - can be searched individually or collectively:

    • Academic Search Complete - a mix of popular magazines and scholarly journals; multidisciplinary
    • Business Source Elite - Business, Econ, Marketing, etc.
    • EconLIt - note: limit of 4 concurrent users
    • GreenFILE
    • PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO
    • Regional Business News - trade publications, so not scholarly. Good for background reading, though.
    • SocIndex with FullText
    • SPORTDiscus with Full Text

2. Google Scholar - scholarly/academic journal articles. Do the following to enable "FindIt@Shepherd" links in Google Scholar:

  • go to http://scholar.google.com
  • click Settings (top right)
  • click Library links (left navigation menu)
  • type shepherd, then click Search button
  • check the box for Scarborough Library, Shepherd University...
  • click Save

3. LexisNexis Academic - full-text articles from US and international newspapers and numerous trade journals

4. New York Times (1851-2007) : Proquest Historical Newspapers - newspaper

5. Wall Street Journal - newspaper. Shepherd has hardcopy for current month. 1973-2007 is on microfilm.

6. The State Journal - West Virginia business newspaper, some content is free.

7. Journal Titles listing - use this when you want to check the full-text availability of a specific magazine or journal such as Journal of Marketing Research (yes, we have it!).
