Academic Search Complete is the world's most comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 6,100 full-text periodicals, including more than 5,100 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 10,100 journals and more than 10,600 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Full text PDF coverage, in some cases, goes back to 1887.

Hathi Trust Digital Library
The Hathi Trust organization has created a digital library for many public domain (and some copyrighted) materials. The Trust's collection can be searched by catalog (author, title, subject, series title, ISBN), by collections, and by full text within a work; those items that have been digitized and placed on the site in PDF files will have a "Full View" check box underneath their search results. PDFs can be viewed freely and single pages of them may also be downloaded freely; downloading the entire work requires logging in as part of a partner institution.
